What is Windows Server (OS)?

If we all know Windows for its computer Operating System (XP, Vista, and more recently Windows 10 and 11), it is often more complicated to define what Windows Server is. Here are some elements to understand.

To simply try to explain Windows Server are operating systems specially designed to run on a server.

These different editions offer different ranges of services designed to support companies in their working environments (access authorization, storage capacity, etc)

What are the main differences with classic Windows OS (for PCs)?

Windows Server is much more powerful than its counterpart: it offers up to 24 TB of RAM when Windows 10 Pro only offers a maximum of 2. Regarding the processor, Windows Server sets up a structure capable of accommodating up to 64 bases, against 2 for Windows 10 Pro. Such capacities may seem huge, yet they are often suitable for managing the simultaneous use of services by dozens, even hundreds of users in some companies.

In addition, to the fact that Windows Server does not require a graphical interface to operate, it provides users with a range of software tailored for professional use: consumer tools such as Microsoft Edge, Cortana and the Microsoft Store give way to features such as Windows Command Prompt and Windows PowerShell to ensure remote control of the infrastructure.
