DATAtourisme customer case

Ikoula supports DATAtourisme in building its infratsructure.

Tourism, an activity at the crossroads of many sectors, involves several ministries; government action is determined at inter-ministerial tourism councils, chaired by the Prime Minister. The Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Economic Recovery plays a major role in designing and implementing this policy. The Direction Générale des Entreprises (DGE) oversees the normative framework for tourism, notably in conjunction with the European Union and industry professionals. The DGE enhances the attractiveness of French destinations through the development of brands, quality and accessibility, as well as through the structuring of thematic tourism sectors.

The DGE has also joined forces with the ADN Tourisme federation to develop the www.datatourisme.fr national platform, aimed at collecting and standardizing all data emanating from more than 40 tourism information systems in order to make them accessible, in a single place and in a homogeneous way, under an open license.

Launched at the end of 2017, the platform already collects over 400,000 tourist information data spread across 13 regions, 96 départements and one overseas département.

Problematic

The DATATourisme platform is a precursor project, so there was no benchmark as to infrastructure requirements. The main challenge was to find a partner capable of supporting the project over time, and adapting to its rapid growth and the frequent addition of new functionalities. What's more, the DGE was very attentive to security issues and ANSSI recommendations, and wanted to turn to a French player offering better guarantees in terms of data sovereignty and security.

Why choose IKOULA?

As this was a proof-of-concept project, we wanted to rely on an agile French player who would listen to our needs and advise us on the technologies and implementation methods for the various solutions. This is obviously one of Ikoula's strong points: listening to our needs and proposing the most appropriate infrastructure. In the case of the DATAtourisme project, discussions focused primarily on the backup solution best suited to the resources available.

Suggested solutions

To meet the project's needs, the technological solution chosen was centered around CloudStack services, a Mono-Xeon 6-Core machine, complemented by a backup solution and former managed services level 4 (Level FIRST). This infrastructure has proved to be correctly dimensioned for use until recently. DATAtourisme's roadmap (and the addition of new functionalities), will require an increase in capacity and a resizing of the infrastructure. This applies in particular to storage and bandwidth, to handle increased incoming and outgoing flows.

For the DGE and its DATAtourisme platform, Ikoula has been a partner from the outset, graciously agreeing to host the platform since its development phase and generously agreeing to continue this partnership until spring 2021. In this context, the DGE teams were able to appreciate the responsiveness, adaptability and quality of exchanges between IKOULA staff.
